Turn Songs is a group of oracular boon tunes made solely to expel anxiety and invoke spirit (sing), while actively inhabiting the body (shake). The abstract lyrics and imagery are an earnest celebration and playful parody of metaphysics and my related musicological research (see, the American Museum of Paramusicology), as well as the act of inhabiting or interacting with my paintings and drawings, some of which are presented here. Referencing the transformative and danceable nature of these songs, the album title is drawn from a poem by Joseph Bradshaw. Please enjoy on your own terms, and thank you for listening. Special thanks to Robbie Hansen, Micah Silver, and Djelloul Marbrook.
N.B. The lyrics for "Jane Lead Says" were originally written by Jane Lead (from "The Eight Worlds," 1695). The lyrics for "Immateriality" partially include a poem ("The Logic of Immateriality") by Irene Rice Pereira (from "The Transcendental Formal Logic of the Infinite," 1966), copyright permission granted by Djelloul Marbrook. The song "Traveling Without Moving" was originally written by Laetitia Sadier & Tim Gane / Stereolab ("Mars Audiac Quintet," 1994).
