The essay offered here (33 pages, PDF) explores the role of sound, symbolism, and metaphysics within the film Longlegs (2024) by director Osgood Perkins. Connections are drawn to his broader filmography: The BlackCoat's Daughter (2015), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016), and Gretel and Hansel (2020). I read the metaphysics of the film through the lenses of Theosophy, ceremonial magic, and apocalyptic Christianity, and share reflections on the sound design of Eugenio Battaglia and the film score of Zilgi. Other topics include nursery rhymes and occult rock, electricity and spirit communication, audio backmasking and subliminal messages, the paranormal affinities of the Perkins' incredible family heritage, the nature and legitimacy of prayer, and the film's inner momcore vision.

WARNING: *Spoilers Galore* (for all films mentioned)--though the more I learn, the more I want to watch them all :)

N.B. This essay appears in the August/2024 issue (No. 16) of the AMP Journal--via the American Museum of Paramusicology--alongside an interview with Nuyorican Lucumí priest/percussionist Abraham Rodriguez.
