Assistant Bishop to the Episcopal Diocese of East and North Carolina

Chip served as assistant to Sidney Sanders, the sixth Bishop of East Carolina (1985-1993),and later as assistant to the 11th Bishop of North Carolina, Michael Curry (2005-2013).During this time he achieved some of his most successful ministry, co-founding the Greensboro Faith Leaders Council, and served as a core leader in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Project, the Beloved Community Center, the Greensboro NAACP, and a leading protester of the Moral Monday protest in Raleigh, NC. In 2014 he was awarded the Bishop's Medal, in recognition of his work on behalf of the poor, immigrants, the LGBT community, and all who are disenfranchised.
